Here we give funny or astounding things you may do with your planetarium.
What was the star of the Three Wise Men ? For a long time astronomers have considered that it was a comet. Today there is a new hypothesis : the curious phenomenon observed by the Nazarenes could have been a conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter of an exceptional duration. The conjunction view will let you see that around 3/26/-6 and 4/7/-5 the graphs of Saturn and Jupiter are nearly the same.
See a transit … A transit occurs when an inner planet is just between the sun and us. The planet can thus be seen on the solar disk. For Venus it is very rare. It occurs twice in 8 years and then noting for 130 years ! Nowadays, nobody has any good photos of Venus transit, because when the last transit occurred, astro-photo was just beginning. But we are lucky : we will be able to see 2 transits in the year 2000. With the dance view you'll be able to foresee that phenomenon in 2004 (6/8) and 2012 (6/6).
Retrograde effect : sometimes Mars seems to stop in the sky, then goes back, hesitates and continue forward. This is due to the combined movement of Mars and the Earth. It's easy to see with the Mercator + trajectories view. Mars graph then makes a little z.
Rings of Saturn : run Saturn 3D view and animate it as fast as possible. you'll see the ring moving !
